Reiki opened my eyes to the energy all around us. Here’s how this practice changed my life and why I am grateful to share it today.
How Reiki Found Me
I always knew things or had feelings I couldn’t explain. As a child and teen, those experiences either scared me or left me unsure what to do with them. Over time, I brushed them aside and got into the habit of ignoring that inner knowing.
Years later, while facing health challenges, my path led me to intuitive and energetic healers. What they did and said simply made sense to me. When they showed me small glimpses of how their work unfolded and explained the principles behind it, it resonated deeply. When they invited me to learn more and encouraged me to become a healer myself, it felt like the most natural thing in the world.
Once it all clicked — that this was what I was meant to be doing to help others — I began searching for a modality to study. The one I was drawn to at first was only offered in Canada at specific times and locations, and with two small children, the timing never worked out. Then Reiki found me.
A trusted and highly gifted family member introduced me to a Reiki master who was holding a course nearby. She even offered to watch my children so I could attend. At the time, I didn’t know much about Reiki. It was first described to me — oversimplified, understandably — as “an energetic massage.” But as I began to study and experience it, I discovered that Reiki is so much more than that.
As my understanding deepened, so did my love and appreciation for the energies that surround us, and for the ways we can share this healing with enery living thing. Reiki is not only a gentle and powerful modality for restoring balance, but also a practice that nurtures grounding, presence, and connection.
The Five Principles of Reiki
At the heart of Reiki are five simple but profound principles — guidelines for living with balance and compassion:
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
These principles encourage us to live mindfully, one day at a time, with gratitude, honesty, and kindness. They remind us to simplify, to be present, and to make now count.
Reiki opened my eyes to the energetic and intuitive world — one that I had sensed as a child but didn’t know how to trust or nurture. I am deeply grateful for this practice and for the opportunity to share it with others in their own healing journeys.
✨ And so I leave you with this question:What might shift in your life if, just for today, you chose to live fully in the present moment?
